the (somewhat) annual family front yard kickball game

I’m sure you all know what kickball is…that game kinda like baseball that you played back in elementary school. You either loved it or hated it. Yeah, ringing some bells?!
Well my family would fall into the love category and every year {on one family holiday or another} we play. I promise you it’s a ton of fun…well as long as you and yours meet the following criteria. You will need:
1. A terrible strategy for picking “fair” teams…we chose counting off “1…2…1…2…” 1’s go here 2’s go there-get the picture? This resulted in one team being made up of 2 adults and 4 children under 13-and the other of 5 adults, 1 teenager and 1 child. So not fair teams.IMG_1868
2. You have to have your grandparents play. This is of upmost importance. If possible work it so grandma and grandpa are on separate teams.

3. You need someone who plays the game as if his team is the Red Sox and they are playing in the World Series. It’s really entertaining…especially if his team members don’t fully understand the importance of this BIG game.

4. It’s awesome to have someone who is hungover playing. They’re depth perception just doesn’t quite cut it and their head isn’t completely in the game.

5. A player under the age of 3 {it’s best to put them on  MVP #3’s team so they don’t get pegged in the head or something}. Cute points-yes. Home runs-not so much.

6. Someone has to walk away grumpy because the game did quite go how they wanted…but really would it be a family activity if that didn’t happen ;)
7. Spectators. These are the wimps who refuse to play but have no problem commenting and laughing at the participants.

8. Remember that it’s just a game…with your family…so really it means nothing {except for the memories that are made}. Just have fun {which for my family also means make fun}. This is especially important for the superstar and the cry-baby to take note of.

It’s Father’s Day!

017 To my Daddy: {As I write this you are headed out to do some super cool detective work that will hopefully supply you with another great, movie-worthy story} I love you alot. I love how when I was little you would take me everywhere with you, no matter how boring you thought it would be or how much I made fun of your outfits {I’m obviously referring to the tapered-leg sweatpants here}. I love that you let me be a little girl but taught me to do cool “boy stuff” too. I love that you always had and still have the answers to even the most ridiculous questions {how does a toilet flush?}. I love that I have always been able to talk to you about anything and everything no matter how serious or silly. I love that you came into school to teach us 2nd graders to sew. I love how when I was younger {and we were poor} and you would travel for work you would always be thinking of me and bring me back something. I love how we always did {and still do} crafts together. I love that you took me to the library for story time {ANTS ON A LOG!}. I love waffles and ice cream. I love how you let me transition from you little girl into a young women smoothly and taught me lots of things along the way. I love that you trust me to make good decisions. I love how you can’t give a concise order at the drive through to save your life. I love that you were singing Lady Gaga in the car the other day with me {even though it’s still all about classic rock}. I love out late night TV-show-and-cheesy- Netflix movie nights. I love that you let me into the “man-cave”. I love the way you love Mommy a ton and still show her tons of affection {even if I say it grosses me out}. I love that you always put your family first and will do absolutely anything for us- I know you just want to give us the world. I love alot of other things too. Thank you giving me a great example of a what a good husband and father is. I love you! Happy Father’s Day!

379 To my Pop-Pop: You are easily both the wisest and wittiest man I know. I can’t think of another person who explains things with as much though and clarity as you. You are so smart and well read and if I have a question about something I know I can go to you and you’ll have an answer for me-and I love the long talks that often follow. Your endless supply of freaky, enlightening and mostly funny stories are always a highlight of conversation. Supposedly {at least according to my mom}, there was a time when I was afraid of you; and while I guess I can see why I don’t really believe it because you’re totally awesome! I love you! Happy Father’s Day!

Welcome to Title Town!

I am a big time Boston sports fan! I truly believe that the fans here are unlike any other fans in their dedication and loyalty to their teams. And this dedication has paid off;being a Boston sports fan is always exciting and, as of late, often rewarding!

In the last 10 years I have gotten to watch as each one of my teams won a World Championship!

First, the win that started this decade of dominance, the Cinderella story of the 2001 New England Patriots. 2 games into the regular season the starting quarterback Drew Bledsoe is grievously injured and it seems once again the Patriots season will end in disappointment. However, New England fans got to watch week after week as young Tom Brady surprised everyone and led his team to their first Superbowl Victory against the “Greatest Show on Turf” St. Louis Rams.

Well Tom Brady and of course the golden foot of one Adam Vinatieri!

Two short years later they did it again. This time beating out the Carolina Panthers on February 1, 2004.

Later that year it seemed the Patriots were sharing some of their good fortune as the Red Sox had themselves in a position to win the World Series for the first time in 86 years. First however they had to get through the Evil Empire…The New York Yankees. After losing 3 games straight it looked like once again the Sox would end the season in defeat.

The sporting world watched in amazement however as the Red Sox became the first team MLB history to win a series after being down tree games to none.

Who could forget Schilling’s bloody {red} sock in game 6?

The momentum carried the Sox through, they swept the Series and the words “The Boston Red Sox are World Champions” were music to the ears of fans who had literally waited a lifetime to hear them.

Only 4 months later the Patriots would once again give Boston fans a reason to cheer as they won their 3rd Superbowl in 4 years and cemented their place in the NFL history books by becoming a Dynasty!

{they also went on a 21 game winning streak during the 2003 and 2004 seasons-which was remarkable to watch}

In 2007 the Red Sox won ANOTHER World Series Championship and the Patriots completed the only 16-game regular season perfect season…and broke a heck of alot of records doing it.

After a Superbowl loss by the Patriots us Boston Fans needed some cheering up…preferably in the form of some sort of Championship-it seemed it was up to the Celtics to deliver and deliver they did…over the LAKERS!!!

And just as the glory of these past championships began to fade during this 3 year drought', out of nowhere, with the odds stacked against them {because that is the way of a true Boston team} come the Bruins. 39 years without a Championship-it’s about freakin’ time!

And to win 3 game 7s to get that giant cup {i bet its almost as tall as me}-you deserve it!

Congrats to the 2011 Stanley Cup Champions: The Boston Bruins-Welcome to Title Town. And congrats to Boston for having your 4 major sports team all win a championship in the past 10 years! Here’s to the many more!

mom says i dont wear heels enough {she also says they are a necessity because of my 5ft-ness}

solution: a new pair of heels. they’re pink, and sparkly-they look just like life-size version of those cute little plastic shoes you i used to have to un-twist from the cardboard of my new barbie’s box {remember those annoying things-errr!?}
