A Day In The Life

Day 25: A Picture of Your Day

Seriously?! A day in my life? Boring. I just an average college student who does normal college student things (minus the drinking and partying-which I guess is half the experience for most). So a day in my life really isn't all that exciting...it's just long and stressful, probably like yours. But hey, if a day in my life is what you want I'll give it to you.

Every morning as soon as I get up I go online and check the weather for the day so I can plan accordingly. Lately, I've been greeted with something in the 40's with the occasional chance of rain or snow. But not today, today I saw almost 60 degrees. To say I was excited would be an understatement. So I picked out this Spring-ish outfit I've been wanting to wear for a while-unfortunately when I actually put it on it didn't look as cute as I pictured it in my head, but I was stubborn and wore it anyway.

When I went to get ready (do my hair and makeup while rocking out to my iPod) I was greeted with this lovely note from my roommate; a response to one I had left her. She has class at 8:00 am while I don't have to be to campus until noon, so this is how we communicate. In case you can't read it, it says, "Get the chicken out! Let's be righteous around 7pm! Then...Jersey Shore!" I really enjoy the little pictures that go with each part. We have a little chicken over there on the left. On the right there's a temple of some sort, with a flag instead of the Angel Maroni, so it looks more like a castle. And on the bottom (you can't really see) but there are pictures of the Jersey Shore characters that we have assigned to ourselves and two of our friends. Originally she made her character and mine the same height, but then chopped my legs off because I'm shorter than her...nice huh?

After I was all ready and in my not-as-cute-as-imagined outfit I head to this place ------>
Although I didn't have class until noon I went early for a test review (that makes me sound like a much better student than I am). After class I went to the bookstore to print some pictures to hang up in my room. As I was leaving the bookstore I saw this group of people gathered around the cashiers desk and I couldn't figure out why they were all just standing there. Then I looked up to what they were all staring at and realized that the BYU-TCU tournament game was on so...

...I joined all of these people in the Wilkinson Center Terrace to watch the first half. It's awesome watching games on campus like that because you get to celebrate with strangers...it's a lot of fun. At half time I went home because I was starving and really wanted to walk home in the beautiful sunshine. Campus is always beautiful but when its warm and the sunshiney it comes alive in a whole new way. Everyone is outside studying and everyone smiles at everyone else because it's no longer freezing and miserable. And now is the time when I really love the mountains. It's awesome to stand outside in 60 degree weather and look at snow covered majesty.

When I got home, just in time to watch the second half begin, I was met with a most wonderful surprise. My other awesome roommate had made my bed for me ------>
Isn't she a sweatheart? Anyway, I watched BYU win while I ate my delicious tuna and cranberry sandwhich on tasted bread...yummo! Unfortunately, even though BYU won so did New Mexico so we'll have to play them AGAIN...we better win this time. After I finished lunch I did some homework and got stuff ready for dinner..you know boring stuff.

At 3:30 I headed back to campus for my ASL class at 4:00 like I do everyday. Today was different though because for class we got to go see this play:

It was really cool. Most of the play there were interpreters for those signing and those speaking- but at some parts it was just signing or just speaking and those were really powerful. I ended up staying about a half hour late listening to a Q&A session with the cast a crew. We were talking about communication problems between the deaf and speaking and just language barriers in general and this guy said something that I though was really profound: "The only communication that ever really matters is soul-to-soul."

When I got home I made this chicken stir fry. I think it was the first meal my mom taught me to cook so it's pretty easy for me these days. Just throw some veggies in a wok, add some chicken and sauce, cook it up and serve over rice. This time I tried something a little different and added some canned peaches and the juice...and it was pretty darn good, I think. I also made a crock pot cherry cobbler, with cake mix and cherry pie filling-also super easy. When I cook I just feel so domestic.

So the day was going real good up until this point. Then something terrible happened. I went to go do some e-mail stuff for BYUSA and Jasper would not work. Naturally I called the man who fixes everything, my Dad (because even if he's 2000 miles away he has to have a solution). Basically- Jasper=RIP. Yes, my most valuable possession gone. So now I have to bum of my roommates computers until my new laptop comes in. That's why I'm late on this post.

Following the laptop tragedy Emily and I took a trip to the temple. I try to go at least once a month. Truth is I'll probably never live this close to a temple again so I need to make the most of this. We didn't stay very long but it's amazing the peaceful power the temple has. It's like the whole world with all its stress, and bad luck, and problems just disappear and I can relax and pray. Plus, look at the thing: even though it's not the most elaborate or prettiest temple it's still beautiful, especially at night.

The day ended with me watching these intelligent beings makes fools out of themselves on national television. I never really gave this show a chance before but it is quite hilarious. I've seen Snookie try to clean a toilet with a mop and cascade, I've heard them say that penguins were mammals, and I've seen the girls tell one of the guys that it's normal for girls to smell like grated cheese sometimes. It's hard for me to fathom that these are real people living in this world and worse representing my region of the country.

So there you have it! An exciting day in my life...sadly today was more eventful than most (at least for a weekday-weekends are a bit more fun). I'll probably be a bit behind updating these last fews days because of the whole laptop incident.
