I know. I know. I’ve been a bad little blogger and this post is pretty late but hopefully some pictures of me covered head to toe in mud with some interesting faces will make up for it. Enjoy :)
A couple weeks ago I went up to Amesbury, MA with a bunch of people and completed the Warrior Dash New England. The website called it “the craziest freakin day of your life”…the should add that it is also the muddiest. This thing was literally 3 miles of trucking through mud with the occasional obstacle thrown in.
Mom saw this crazy race and decided she needed to get as many people to do it with her as she could. She got my dad and I and my 60+ year old Nana all to do it. Then my Uncle Jared. People from church. My best friend Shelby and her entire family. Numerous other friends. And Dad even roped a few guys from work into it. We were trying to figure out how they got 18,000+ fools to run this race {yes, that’s right 18,000 idiots racers over the course of 2 days here in Mass}.
When I first found out about the race it was this obstacle {fire-jumping} that freaked me out the most. My mother quickly eased my fears by informing me that they were “only little fires”. It wasn’t the fires that almost did me in though, it was the 90 degree incline wall I had to climb over. One side had a rope, and I actually did it pretty easily. The other side had wooden slots to climb down like a ladder. Yeah, guess who was to short to reach her foot to the slot while still holing on to the top hand spot?…if you guessed me you would be correct. I basically had to just let go, drop and catch the next handhold…SCARY! Please note the mud CAKED to my shoes despite my countless efforts to rinse them off in pools of water throughout the course. {I hope you enjoy my awkward arm and leg positioning}
That woman in green is my Nana, she is 63 years old {she’s gonna kill me for putting her age up here but whatever, I’m proud} and she did the whole thing-and wouldn’t let ANYONE help her {including the shirtless muscles man up there}. As the drunk guy who joined us in cheering her across the finish line put it…”She’s a champion!” And she knows it…she wore her shirt and medal for the next two days!
3 generations crossed that finish line! Also, check out my Dad’s kilt. Awesome right?! Yeah, he thinks so too!
My Uncle Jared and his friends. These are the costumes they threw together the night before. Over 200 people asked for pictures of/with them. But, wouldn’t you? P.S. Cookie Monster is single and looking ;)
Me and my race buddy before and after!
I don’t think she’ll ever do it again, but I’m just happy she agreed to do it in the first place.
