I'm pretty sure a guy attempted to flirt with me today and failed...miserably!
It's NBA playoff season and the Celtics are in it...I own a Ray Allen jersey so I decided I would wear it today. Usually I'll get a few boos and a few more "Go Celtics" but it doesn't usually attract much attention...except for today.
I was studying for my Sign Language final with a bunch of people from class and a few of us decided we wanted some Jamba. So we're waiting for our drinks to be prepared and this guy comes up and says "boo Celtics" and just stands there. So I humor him by politely responding "Ohh you don't like the Celtics? Who's your team?" From here he proceeds to tell me all about his love for the Denver Nuggets and how if the Celtics make it that far the Nuggets will kill them but chances are the C's wont make it anyway. He then moves onto the Red Sox and how he hates them because he served his mission in New York and is a Yankees fan and that most Boston fans are posers anyway. I let him know I'm from Boston and being a fan runs in my blood-which apparently raises his respect for me.
From here it gets really good. His next line is "What I really dont like about people from Boston is the way they talk. Putting "wicked" in front of everything." and then hits me on the arm all playfully. I couldn't believe this guy who I didn't know from Adam was standing there insulting me like this and I let him know it. I mean it's one thing for my friends to make fun, but not this New York loving hick from Coloraaahhhdo (apparently that's how people from in-state say it). Oh and the best part is that while this Spanish major (not even linguistics or something) is telling me about how much he hates my speech he is saying "freakin" every other sentence...real intelligent sounding.
Next he gets back to how the Celtics are going to lose and says something to the effect of "and when my Nuggets beat your Celtics I'll call you and rub it in." And how do you expect the contact me again? You're not getting my number from me buddy.
But wait...it get's better. He starts off good by complementing my Allen jersey and telling me what a great player Ray is but then...he says "It's not really the Boston sports teams I hate, it's the fans." Seriously! The guy, with a smile on his face stood there and said this to me. My words for him were, "So far you've insulted my home, my teams, the way I talk and now me personally. This isn't going too well for ya is it?" Before he has a chance to attempt a response they supposedly call his name to get his drink and he walks away with a smile saying "It was nice talking to you, no hard feelings?"
Seriously, he would have been better with some cheesy pickup line like "Are you from Tennessee? Cause you're the only 10 I see." Some people's kids...
